Overview
- Palazzo
- 1,900 m²
Description
Built between 1730 and 1740, the Palace belonged to the Tarantini family, one of the oldest families in Ginosa, reported in the census of Frederick of Aragon in 1496. An elegant palace with refined geometry that overlooks Piazza Orologio, in the historic center of Ginosa, just 20 km from Matera, a UNESCO heritage city, 40 km from Taranto and less than 1 hour from Bari International Airport.
Chosen as a movie set for films by Italian directors and also as a photographic set for fashion companies, the palace has a tall entrance portal that opens onto a welcoming and bright courtyard with three arches that, in succession, support the gallery. From the courtyard a scenic stone staircase leads to the main floor, consisting of large rooms decorated in the 1800s with fine papiers peints then frescoed in the early 1900s. The palace is also listed among the goods of FAI for this reason.
With a total area of about 2,000 square meters, the Palace occupies an entire block and is only 100 meters from the ravine.
On the ground floor there are currently two commercial activities namely a bar and a restaurant overlooking the courtyard and various charming rooms with high ceilings.
The stone staircase leads to the second floor where there is a mezzanine of about 125 square meters then to the main floor with as many as 19 rooms most of them frescoedfor a total of almost 680 square meters. Here a terrace of almost 80 sq m with a central well that was used to collect water.
On the second floor, once used for servants, two rooms and then up to the large terrace from where there is a unique panorama. A walkable part and a part with a truss with tiles of about 500 sqm.
